Biography
Barbara Cho Chung-i was married to Sebastian Nam I-gwan. The earlier persecution separated them when he was exiled, and she eventually moved to Seoul to live among practicing Catholics. She helped her cousin Paul Chong Ha-sang prepare journeys connected with bringing missionaries to Korea.
Barbara later provided a small house where priests could stay and Catholics could gather for prayer and the sacraments. Arrested in 1839, she refused to reveal her husband's hiding place or deny her faith. She comforted other prisoners before being executed in Seoul that December. Her martyrdom followed Sebastian's separate execution.
