Biography
Antoine Daveluy was a French priest who joined the Paris Foreign Missions Society after parish work. He reached Korea with Bishop Ferréol and Andrew Kim Tae-gon and began pastoral ministry in the 1840s. During illness he taught seminarians and worked on language materials, alongside publishing religious books and collecting accounts of Korean martyrs.
As coadjutor to Bishop Berneux, Daveluy served difficult rural communities and helped preserve Church history. He briefly succeeded Berneux after the latter's execution in 1866. Arrested in March, Daveluy was interrogated in Seoul and executed at Galmaemot with fellow missionaries and Korean collaborators. The biography makes his scholarly and pastoral work visible beyond his final suffering.
