Biography
Anthony Daniel was a French Jesuit priest who became a missionary in New France after encounters with a Huron student and the missionary John de Brébeuf. Travelling with Brébeuf in 1634, he entered communities struggling with a devastating epidemic and suspicion directed toward the newcomers.
He taught children prayers and Christian teaching through music. A later attempt to run a boys' school in Quebec attracted few students and closed; Daniel returned to the missions. He worked for years at Cahiagué and died in 1648. Antoine Daniel is the French form of his name, not a separate missionary.
