Biography

Angelo was born Luca Antonio Falcone in Acri to a farming and baking household. A neighbor taught him reading and writing, and a priest uncle continued his education. Contact with a Capuchin preacher encouraged his wish for religious life, although his family resisted it and his first attempts at the novitiate ended in withdrawal.

He eventually persevered as a Capuchin and became a priest. Traveling through the kingdom of Naples, he preached in language accessible to ordinary listeners. The source presents his ministry within a life of simplicity, observance and charity. Details of his early chronology require caution because the page contains an incompatible confirmation year. Francis canonized Angelo of Acri in 2017.
