Biography

Alexander Briant was an English priest who studied at Oxford before crossing to the English College in Douai. After ordination in 1578, he returned to England and ministered in his home region. His period of pastoral work was cut short when men searching for another priest discovered him in a neighboring house.

His captors attempted to force information from him through deprivation and torture. He was eventually taken to the Tower of London. The Society of Jesus identifies him as a saint and records that he entered the Jesuits shortly before his execution in 1581. His brief life combined parish ministry with steadfastness during imprisonment.
