Biography
Agatha Kim A-gi came from a household without Catholic ties and married into another such family. A visit from her Catholic older sister prompted her to study the faith. She struggled to memorize prayers, but continued her preparation despite the danger that becoming Catholic brought in Korea at that time.
She was arrested in 1836 and received baptism while imprisoned. Alongside Magdalene Kim Ob-i and Barbara Han A-gi, she refused demands to renounce her belief. After years in confinement, Agatha was executed in Seoul in 1839. The bishops' account records her canonization in 1984; it does not establish a modern medical diagnosis for her learning difficulties.
