Biography

Thomas of Cori worked as a shepherd and, after losing his parents, helped provide for his sisters before entering the Franciscans. He was ordained in 1683 and served in the formation of novices. His desire for a life centered on prayer led him to the Franciscan hermitage at Bellegra in 1684.

He spent most of his remaining life there, with a period at Palombara where he helped establish another hermitage. The Vatican's account presents community life, spiritual guidance, and a sustained rhythm of prayer as central to his vocation. His example gives a quieter perspective on service than a biography organized around public achievements alone. He died in 1729 and was canonized in 1999.
