Biography

Simón de Rojas entered the Trinitarians in Valladolid and studied at Salamanca before ordination. He taught philosophy and theology and served as superior in several religious houses. Alongside these responsibilities, he developed a strong Marian devotion that shaped his work with lay people and the poor.

In 1612 he founded an association dedicated to the name of Mary, open to people from different social classes. He later served as tutor to royal children and confessor to the queen without making court service the whole of his ministry. John Paul II canonized him in 1988. His biography connects teaching, spiritual direction and lay charitable work.
