Biography
Peter Nguyễn Khắc Tự was a catechist from Ninh Bình who served in the apostolic vicariate of Western Tonkin. He assisted Bishop Pierre Dumoulin-Borie and asked to share the bishop's captivity after his arrest. The bishop initially feared Peter would be unable to endure the punishment. Peter requested encouragement and prayer, and the bishop gave him part of a cloth as a sign of their shared commitment.
In letters Peter described repeated interrogation, beatings, and refusal to step across a cross. He died at Đồng Hới in 1840. He was canonized in 1988.
