Biography
Peter Choe Hyong studied Chinese literature and supported his family through farming. He assisted Pierre Maubant, later accompanied Andrew Kim Tae-gon to Shanghai for priestly ordination, and helped the returning missionaries. His work in Seoul included translating religious books and making rosary beads.
Bishop Berneux entrusted Peter with a printing shop, where he worked for several years publishing Catholic texts. During the persecution of 1866 he initially escaped, but was later arrested. He refused to renounce his faith and was executed with John Baptist Chon Chang-un in March. Their publishing collaboration supported the Church's teaching without making their separate identities interchangeable.
