Biography

Mary Magdalene de Pazzi was a Carmelite nun in Florence whose religious life centered on prayer, fidelity to her vows and concern for the renewal of the Church. The Catholic account describes her as a contemplative who offered her life for that renewal. Her influence also reached the sisters with whom she lived, whom she helped in their own religious formation.

She also helped guide the other sisters in their religious lives. Catholic testimony associates her with mystical experiences, while the Roman Martyrology emphasizes her hidden life of renunciation and sustained prayer for ecclesial reform. She died in Florence in 1607, remembered within the Carmelite tradition as a contemplative whose concern extended to the whole Church.
