Biography

Lawrence Ngôn belonged to the parish of Liên Thủy and grew up in a poor farming household. His parents combined demanding agricultural work with regular religious observance. He married a woman from the same community, and their household continued this pattern of work, prayer, and education of the children. Persecution eventually disrupted the village's ordinary life.

After officials surrounded Liên Thủy, Lawrence was arrested and taken to Xuân Trường. He was then exiled to An Xá in Thái Bình, where he faced punishment and abuse from guards. Returned for interrogation, he again refused to renounce Christianity. He was beheaded at An Triêm in 1862. He was canonized in 1988.
