Biography
Joseph Đỗ Quang Hiển came from Quần Phương Hạ in Nam Định. He entered church service as a child under Bishop Ignacio Delgado, proceeded through theological study, and became a priest. In 1812 he professed vows in the Dominican Order. His pastoral assignments included Cao Mộc, where he encouraged regular participation in prayer and the sacraments.
During persecution Joseph moved between the homes of relatives and Catholics willing to shelter him. He also assisted Bishop Dominic Henares. His final imprisonment brought severe punishment and pressure to renounce Christianity, which he refused. He was beheaded in 1840 while the catechist Thomas Toán remained in prison. He was canonized in 1988.
