Biography
Geltrude Comensoli was born Caterina in Bienno. Drawn to religious life, she entered the Daughters of Charity at Lovere but had to leave because of illness. After recovering, changed family finances led her to work as a domestic servant. Alongside those responsibilities she taught children and developed a strong commitment to Eucharistic prayer.
Her desire to join adoration with service eventually took institutional form in the Sacramentine Sisters of Bergamo. The community brought together a contemplative focus on the Eucharist and practical concern for others. Her earlier experience of work, illness and teaching formed part of the path by which she became its founder. Benedict XVI canonized Geltrude Comensoli in 2009.
