Biography

Eusebius came from Sardinia, served in the clergy of Rome and became bishop of Vercelli. He encouraged a shared way of life among his clergy, influenced by the example of monastic communities. During the disputes over the Nicene faith he defended the full divinity of Christ and supported Athanasius.

His position brought exile in several eastern regions before he could return to his diocese. He continued to defend the Nicene faith while supporting reconciliation with those who changed their earlier position. He died in 371. The Roman Martyrology remembers him as a confessor of the faith, emphasizing the endurance of exile rather than describing an execution.
