St. Elżbieta Hesselblad

A Swedish convert who restored the Bridgettine Order and sheltered Jews during the Holocaust in Rome.

Biography

St. Elżbieta Hesselblad was born Lutheran in Sweden, emigrated to America as a nurse, and converted to Catholicism. She refounded the Bridgettine Order and during World War II, hid Jewish families in her convent in Rome, saving at least 12 lives. She was canonized by Pope Francis in 2016.
