Biography
Anna Pak A-gi grew up in a Catholic family near the Han River. She married, raised five children and taught them the faith, drawing particular strength from prayer about Christ's Passion. She was arrested with her husband and eldest son in 1836.
Her husband and son renounced their faith and were released, but Anna remained in prison. Their repeated appeals for her to return home added to the distress of imprisonment and torture. She continued to profess Catholicism and was executed in Seoul in May 1839. The bishops' biography identifies her as one of the martyrs canonized by John Paul II in 1984.
