Biography
Agnes Kim Hyo-ju grew up near the Han River and became Catholic with members of her family after her father's death. With her sisters Columba and Clara she chose an unmarried life devoted to prayer and service. They lived with their brother Anthony and gave help to people in need.
Agnes and Columba were arrested in 1839. Both resisted demands to renounce their faith or reveal other Catholics' whereabouts, despite severe abuse in prison. Agnes was executed in Seoul in September, before Columba's later execution that month. The bishops' biography explicitly identifies the sisters as separate canonized martyrs.
