St. Germanus of Capua
Germanus of Capua was a bishop in southern Italy remembered for efforts to restore communion between Rome and Constantinople. As a papal representative he took part in the work of ending a long separation between the churches. The Catholic source places this diplomatic service alongside his episcopal ministry at Capua.
Gregory the Great also mentioned Germanus in his writings. The account of Benedict seeing his soul carried to heaven belongs to that devotional tradition and should be distinguished from the practical record of a bishop serving the unity of the Church. His October 30 commemoration is separate from that of Germanus of Paris. The sources place his death in the sixth century, with differing exact years.
October 30 is a Catholic commemoration recorded by Nominis. This daily reading does not determine the Mass or liturgical rank; local calendars and higher-ranking celebrations can differ.
