St. Leodegar of Autun
Leodegar, also known as Léger, was bishop of Autun in the seventh century. His ministry unfolded during conflicts between Frankish political powers in Burgundy and Neustria. The Catholic account relates that he surrendered during the siege of Autun to spare his people further suffering.
He was tortured, detained and eventually killed on the orders of Ebroin, a powerful official of the Neustrian court. The Church later recognized his witness as martyrdom. Sources disagree on some details, including the exact death year and location, so those points are left qualified here. His local Catholic commemoration is October 2, independently of the Guardian Angels memorial celebrated on the same date.
October 2 is a Catholic commemoration recorded by Nominis. This daily reading does not determine the Mass or liturgical rank; local calendars and higher-ranking celebrations can differ.
