St. Pacificus of San Severino
Pacificus Divini entered the reformed Franciscans as a young man and became a priest, philosophy teacher, and preacher. His early ministry took him among communities in the Italian Marches. Over time, serious disabilities, including impaired mobility, hearing, and sight, restricted his public work.
Born in 1653, he lost his parents while young and experienced hardship before entering the friars in 1670. Ordination followed in 1678. Teaching philosophy and then preaching missions gave him responsibilities that required both learning and direct engagement with local communities.
His later disabilities changed the form of that service. The record places his brief term as guardian at Maria delle Grazie in 1692–1693, within the long period of illness. His story includes continued membership and responsibility in community, not only private endurance.
He continued religious life within the friary, where accounts emphasize patience, prayer, and devotion to the Eucharist. He also served for a period as guardian despite his illnesses. Reported mystical experiences form part of the devotional record, while his long life with disability is central to his biography. He died in 1721 and was canonized in 1839.
