St. Nicholas of Tolentino
Nicholas of Tolentino was an Augustinian priest from the Marche region of Italy. He entered the order as a young man and devoted his life to prayer, preaching and pastoral ministry. His name should not cause confusion with Nicholas of Myra, the earlier bishop whom his family venerated.
The Catholic account emphasizes a striking contrast within his pastoral character: he practiced severe discipline himself but treated people seeking confession with gentleness. His life at Tolentino joined personal asceticism to sympathy for others. He died in 1305, was canonized in 1446, and is commemorated on September 10. The foundation of this biography is his religious community and ministry, rather than unverified promises attached to later devotion.
September 10 is a Catholic commemoration recorded by Nominis. This daily reading does not determine the Mass or liturgical rank; local calendars and higher-ranking celebrations can differ.
